Sunday School

...learning to live the life

Sunday School Is a Necessity

One of the worst mistakes I made as a pastor was to allow a few people to convince me that Sunday School was no longer relevant or important. As a result, we canceled it.

At first, there was no noticeable difference, but in about a year the negative effects began to show. A few people were connecting with the church in various areas such as the choir, ministry to children, and ministry to the youth. But the majority, especially new people, did not have a structured way to connect with our church body.

After a couple of years, Sunday School again became a part of our church life. It was not easy because we had lost much momentum and interest and regaining them was a struggle.

I learned from that experience that a systematic teaching of the Word of God in a small group setting is a necessity and the name is immaterial whether it is called Sunday School, school of the Bible, or some other name, is not the point. It is systematically teaching the Word of God where people have the opportunity to relate to others and to interact in a small group setting.

There has never been a greater opportunity for the church to promote biblical teaching. When quality teachers, who have adequately prepared, stand before a class and share the Word of God, the response will strengthen the church.
